Switching the soundscape final choice

I've been listening to music this week and was searching for a song that can encapsulate a female character for its music video, which left me with either a song sung by a female singer (which I could also lip-sync to throughout the music video) or a song about a female character that could tell a story.

As I previously looked into including mixed media and illustrations in my music video, it could revolve around the concept of childhood and nostalgia. This would pair well with the vintage appeal created by the handycam, as well as archive videos of myself from my childhood.

Therefore, as I wasn't fully convinced by either of the previous Soundscape Options because of reasons such as being too short, respectively 2 minutes, where ideally, the music video would have 3 to 4 minutes; lacking ideas of visual concepts to the songs and the songs having a different narrative that wouldn't go well with my ideas planned previously.  I've stumbled upon the song Matilda by Harry Styles and decided to work with it for my music video, as it is a slow, emotional and nostalgic song that could enable me to target these specific genres and create  engagement for the audience.

The choice was intentional, as it has a moderate tempo, melancholic tone, and introspective lyrics that strongly align with the themes of childhood, nostalgia, and emotional growth explored in my previous blogs. The slower pace of the song allows space for reflective visuals, such as archive footage and mixed media elements, encouraging the audience to focus on the emotional journey of the female character rather than fast-paced action. Lyrically, the song centres on themes of independence, healing from a difficult past, and self-acceptance, which helps construct a meaningful narrative that a 16–30 target audience can personally relate to. This soundtrack therefore plays a key role in emotionally positioning the audience, inviting their empathy and reinforcing the nostalgic and intimate atmosphere.
