Album covers
Olivia Dean’s ‘’Messy’’ album is one of my all-time favourites. The packaging is simple, yet unique. The colour contrast provokes engagement, but the intimate feel that it has, due to a mix between the close-up picture and the minimalist background, is what makes the album cover truly appealing. It creates a sense of confession and emotional authenticity that is passed down to the audience.
Steve Lacy’s ‘’Gemini Rights’’ vinyl LP (I’ve found out this stands for long play) is a useful example of a digipak edition that captures personality perfectly. It feels both intimate and expansive through the retro-touch aesthetic (clean lines, warm tones) and a design that reflects the album’s blend of alt-R&B and psychedelic soul. Collectors would appreciate the packaging because of its collage-like appearance, glossy visuals, and a color palette that hints at duality (the Gemini theme), without becoming too quirky.
